Lightning over a street at night
No power?

First, check if it’s just your home

  1. Check whether your neighbours have power. If the whole street is off, it is a supply outage or load shedding, so contact your electricity supplier (the City of Tshwane or Eskom).
  2. If only your home is off, look at your DB board for a tripped main switch, earth leakage or breaker.
  3. If you have a prepaid meter, check that it has units and shows no error.
  4. If part of the house is off and nothing has tripped, there may be a loose connection or a damaged cable. Leave that to an electrician.

What we fix

Faults we trace and repair

Part of the house without power

Loose or burnt connections, a failed breaker or a damaged circuit cable.

Burning smell or hot plugs

Overheating plugs, switches or connections that need attention before they cause damage.

Damaged underground cables

Cables to outbuildings, gates, garden lights and pumps, damaged by digging or age.

Flickering or dimming lights

Loose connections, including a loose neutral, that make lights flicker or dim.

Faults after load shedding

Breakers, appliances and circuits that won’t come back on when the power returns.

Storm and surge damage

Lightning and surge damage to boards, plugs and appliances, and wet outdoor fittings.

Smell burning or see smoke? Switch off the main switch at the DB board if it is safe to do so, keep away from the affected plug or appliance and call us.

Power failure FAQs

Can’t see your question? Call 012 383 2011 and ask the electrician directly.

Why do I have power in some rooms but not others?

Usually a tripped or failed breaker, a loose connection or a damaged cable on that circuit. If nothing has tripped, leave it off and have it tested.

Is it load shedding or a fault in my home?

If your neighbours are also off, it is probably load shedding or a supply outage. If only your home or part of it is off, check your DB board and call us if the cause isn’t obvious.

Can you find a fault in an underground cable?

Yes. We test the cable run to find where it is damaged, then repair or replace the faulty section.

Why won’t my power come back on after load shedding?

A breaker or the earth leakage may have tripped when the power returned, or a surge may have damaged a circuit or appliance. Check the board first, then call us if it won’t reset.

When can you come out?

We work Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00. Call 012 383 2011 and we will book the first available time.
